The adventure of Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines PSP begins in Acre, where Altair Ibn-La’Ahad is pursuing the fleeing leaders of the Templars after the fall of their stronghold. During his attack on their base, he encounters Maria Thorpe, a fierce knight who has sworn revenge for her late master, Robert de Sablé, whom Altair had previously killed. Despite her skills, the battle ends in Altair’s favor, and he takes Maria captive, bringing her with him to Cyprus, unaware that this decision will change both of their destinies.

Upon arriving on the island, Altair realizes that the Templars did not come here merely to escape but to establish a new stronghold under the leadership of their Grand Master, Armand Bouchart. The Templars have imposed iron-fisted rule, burdening the local population with heavy taxes and oppression, sparking the flames of resistance. Altair soon allies himself with this emerging movement, using his stealth and assassination skills to eliminate the Templar leaders one by one. Meanwhile, Maria, who started as a captured enemy, finds herself torn between her old allegiance to the Crusaders and her growing attraction to Altair’s ideals. Over time, her hatred fades, and she even saves Altair from an assassination attempt by a Templar spy within the Cypriot resistance. Eventually, she falls in love with him and tells him of her desire to leave the Templars and travel the world, to which Altair agrees to join her on her journey.

The game is an action-adventure experience that focuses on stealth and combat. It maintains the core gameplay mechanics that defined the first game while introducing modifications to suit the PlayStation Portable (PSP). The open-world structure remains intact, allowing players to freely explore the cities of Limassol and Kyrenia, filled with fortified castles, markets, and narrow alleys that provide an ideal setting for assassinations and stealth gameplay. Climbing mechanics have been improved, making Altair move faster and more fluidly between buildings, enhancing the sense of freedom in movement. New assassination techniques have been introduced, such as pulling enemies off ledges to their doom. Unlike the first game, Altair can now retrieve throwing knives from fallen enemies or the ground.

Due to the PSP’s limited processing power, the number of non-playable characters (NPCs) in the streets has been reduced, making encounters more direct. However, the game compensates for this with a compelling narrative that justifies the island’s instability and chaos under Templar rule. Another notable feature of this version is the simplification of story missions and assassinations, making them more straightforward and fluid. Instead of eavesdropping or stealing documents, the mission structure follows a format similar to Assassin’s Creed II, where Altair completes tasks sequentially and gradually gathers information from allies and enemies alike.

When comparing Bloodlines to the previous installment, the game retains the essence of the original experience while implementing refinements to fit the PSP or the PPSSPP emulator on Android devices. Some features have been scaled down due to hardware limitations, such as fewer civilians and the removal of certain abilities. However, it still delivers an engaging experience for fans of the series, allowing players to continue Altair’s journey in a world full of secrets. With an intriguing storyline and the evolving relationship between Altair and Maria, the game offers a more personal narrative, making it a valuable addition to the franchise. If you are a fan of Assassin’s Creed and looking for a new adventure with Altair, Bloodlines provides a blend of stealth, combat, and exploration, with strong storytelling elements that make it more than just a handheld title—it stands as a noteworthy entry in the history of the Assassins.
